Logistics and network

Shipping to Kenya.

Consignments for Kenya move Sea from Mundra or Nhava Sheva to Mombasa, then road or rail (SGR) to Nairobi. Typical transit is 10 to 14 days; discharge at Mombasa. We quote Ex Factory or FOB Mundra / Nhava Sheva; CIF Mombasa on request, with payment by LC at sight or advance, USD.

The grid runs at 50 Hz with 415/240 V low-voltage supply and 11 kV and 33 kV distribution; 66 kV and 132 kV sub-transmission. Distribution is operated by Kenya Power (KPLC) and KETRACO for transmission, regulated by Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA). Import conformity: KEBS Pre-Export Verification of Conformity (PVoC): Certificate of Conformity before shipment (Route A, B or C); destination inspection at Mombasa otherwise.

Full specification and gallery

The power transformer line closed the last gap in the chain. Between distribution and power class we now cover 16 kVA right through to 20 MVA — a span very few regional manufacturers hold on a single site.

The standard substation build is 33/11 kV, Dyn11, ONAN, with an off-circuit tap changer at +5% to −10%. Where the network needs voltage regulation under load we fit an on-load tap changer at +5% to −15%, and where the load profile justifies forced cooling we supply ONAF with a rated output at each cooling stage.

What changes for Kenya.

  • Climate and site: Coastal humid at Mombasa; Nairobi and the highlands at 1,500 to 2,100 m, altitude derating applies.
  • Built to IEC 60076 for 50 Hz, with insulation levels for the 11 kV and 33 kV distribution and 415/240 V secondaries; temperature-rise limits and cooling sized for the stated ambient and altitude.
  • Fittings, bushings and tap-changer ranges follow the utility specification (Kenya Power (KPLC) and KETRACO for transmission); type-test certificates from CPRI or ERDA accompany the offer.
  • Documentation: commercial invoice, packing list, certificate of origin, test certificates and the import conformity certificate where Kenya requires one.
FAQ

Questions

Frequently asked.

How long does delivery of Power Transformers to Kenya take?
Manufacturing time depends on the rating and quantity and is confirmed with the quotation; shipping is 10 to 14 days via Mombasa. Inspection before dispatch can be arranged for your representative or a third-party agency.
What documents and certificates come with a consignment to Kenya?
Commercial invoice, packing list, certificate of origin, routine test certificates per unit or drum, and the import conformity paperwork: KEBS Pre-Export Verification of Conformity (PVoC): Certificate of Conformity before shipment (Route A, B or C); destination inspection at Mombasa otherwise.
Which standard and voltage class do you build to for Kenya?
IEC 60076 and related IEC standards for 50 Hz, with 11 kV and 33 kV distribution, or the Kenya Power (KPLC) and KETRACO for transmission specification where one is issued. Indian Standard designs with IEC equivalents are also accepted on many schemes.
